An MSF project update dated 14 November 2014 describes a trial with the US company Matternet in Kerema, Gulf Province, Papua New Guinea. The aim was to move diagnostic samples quickly from remote health centres to the MSF-supported laboratory at Kerema General Hospital.

The drones were used to transport sputum samples of patients with suspected tuberculosis and could carry only a light payload. MSF gives a speed of up to 60 km/h and a maximum range of 28 km in favourable conditions, and says the system still needed fine-tuning during the trial phase. This entry makes no claim about later operations.
