According to Interesting Engineering (8 April 2017), Swiss Post ran a pilot with the California-based company Matternet in which drones flew between two hospitals of the EOC hospital group in Lugano, near the Italian border. The pilot began in mid-March 2017.

TechCrunch reported in March 2017 that Switzerland’s Federal Office for Civil Aviation had certified Matternet to fly its delivery drones autonomously over cities, and that the Matternet M2 aircraft, with a 2 kilogram payload, were to carry blood samples and other small parcels. Both articles describe a pilot and do not report long-term results.
