During the storms from Hurricane Helene in late September 2024, floodwater trapped two people in a camper in Pulaski County, Virginia, where crews could not reach them directly. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team flew a drone over the camper and hovered down to confirm that two people were there.
According to WDBJ, the team stayed with the pair and communicated with them to let them know help was on the way; at least two people were rescued in Pulaski County during the storms. The City of Fairfax Fire Department, which assisted, recommended the team for recognition from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.
